Event Name:
Ottawa Challenging 4th of July Weekend

This is an open invitation to all HG/PG pilots in Ottawa (All Canadian pilots are welcome) for a X-Country competition and to fly with and challenge a world HG pilot champion, Linda Salamone, in her first visit to Canada. This event will be held on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th of July.

Linda is one of the U.S's leading women competitive pilots. she was just recently ranked in the top ten in the world.

She kindly accepted my invitation to put Ottawa on her busy flying summer calendar between the pre-women's worlds in Germany and US National in Florida.

Linda won the U.S. Women's National Hang Gliding Championship in 2006 and 2007. Worldwide, Linda ranks fifth among all female pilots. She is ranked 16th among men.

She is bringing the knowledge and long experience in competitive flying, professional coaching, and if there is enough interest from our pilots, She will be holding some sort of sanctioned XC clinic to spread what she have learned.

Location: depends on wind direction. Kars strip for E-W wind, Actons Corners Strip for N-S wind.

Towing: you need an aerotow rating for the tug, or step-tow rating for static winch.
a payout winch is also available.

Cost: TBD, It will be just to cover the Tug/winch operation and Linda's accommodation expenses during her first visit to Ottawa and her temporary HPAC insurance.

Task Format: each day there will be two tasks, one for HG and another one for PG.
All tasks are measured by distance. Your best flight of the day counts towards XCXC Series scoring.
Minimum distance flown, by a single pilot, needs to be more than a 20:1 (HG) or 15:1 (PG) for a task to count.

Task Type: Open Distance, its Self-Explanatory, just turn on your GPS and go. Fly as far as you can, without using turnpoints....and worry about scoring later.
Still scored on straight distance from launch.

The event will be capped at 50 pilots. On-site registration will be accepted subject to availability.

FREE CAMPING: Nik Wellstein is offering free camping at his field on Rideau River for all the pilots.
