Fire Update

The Beechworth Fire is continuing to threaten the areas of Bruarong, Dederang, Gundowring, Gundowring Upper, Kancoona, Kancoona South, Coral Bank, Glen Creek and Running Creek. The fire front has crossed the Yackandandah Dederang Road in the Mt Big Ben area and may impact on the Kergunyah South, Kergunyah and Gundowring North communities.

This year is the last that Carol and Heather are organising and running the Bogong cup. They did a fantastic job and everyone had a blast.

Wind speeds today made the decision easy: The day is cancelled, awards party tonight at 7pm at Settlers Tavern.

Finally some flying! The winds were really strong during the night, but calmed down and was quite light in  the morning. We drove up to Mustic at Bright, and set up in the dustbowl there. (Some lucky bastards got to set up on the carpet :-))

Bogong Cup, day three, no task

There was a 15 mph wind on launch gusting to 21 mph. The wind was cold. There were long lulls during the day that got us to setup, but the wind was really still there.

The wind tech launch in good launch conditions (light winds right up the launch) but as he headed out he hit an "air pocket" and dropped 40 meters, just clearing the trees. After that no one wanted to launch.

The day was called.

No flying yesterday and it was 41'C (106'F) and the forecast was for strong wind from an unfavourable direction. No task today, the lift was scant and light virga plentyful. So we took pictures instead.
