Turnpoint Accumulation Tasks

There is a form of task that you can set in CompeGPS (the flight verification software I use to score the Nats) called Turnpoint Accumulation. It's similar to the Tiger Tag comp they have at Tiger Mountain and the very popular Chelan Classic.

What it does is you give your competition pilots a designated launch and a set of waypoints and leave it up to them when they want to launch and choose what turnpoints they feel they can attain and in what ever order they want. The only catch is they can only use each turnpoint once!

So as a meet organizer, it makes things easier. Have a morning weather briefing to educate them on the conditions and what site is chosen and let them loose! Then you just have to reconvene at the end of the day and do an automated GPS verification of the flights and run the scores!

Pair this with a Team Meet format and you will find some interesting team work happen and also some spying on what other teams are hoping to accomplish.

Have some handicaps for inferior performing wings and some lesser experienced pilots and you will see those pilots surprising contribute to their team's results. Who knows who will win.

If you want to also make it a sanctioned event, you could do it - just remove the handicapping for the sanctioned scores and use those results. This will keep the point-hungry pilots trying to squeak out the longest course possible for that day.
