Fraser Valley XC - format changed
So we are going to try something a bit different at the Fraser Valley XC Series (HG & PG)this year. it has traditionally been a traditional GAP/RACE event for many years but the mood has loosened up and the desire to race to goal seems to have dropped...so has attendence so we hope this will spark some interest.
We are going to try the Turnpoint Accumulation system built into the CompeGPS verification program. I used it once briefly at the Bridal Falls Air Races and the system worked. The event wasn't really an XC event so it wasn't well attended so we aren't able to see what the scores work out to.
So this system is kinda like an open distance meet but with turnpoints....so kinda like the Chelan Classic but it adds a couple of twists. For one, the meet is verified by GPS and the other is that you can only use each turnpoint once. So in the case of you are heading to a further turnpoint and you have accidentally clip another one, you can't come back and use that one you accidentally used. So plan your route accordingly.
The nice thing about this style is that pilots can launch whenever they like and fly for as long as they can. They aren't told when and where to fly.
I hope it works out. I think it is a format that really could catch on. And it is sanctioned by our national association as it is verified by GPS and uses GAP.
