Willi XC Challenge Update
The 10th annual Willi is just 3 weeks away. This is without a doubt going to be the biggest gathering of PG and HG XC competitors in Canada this year. You will have fun and learn, and if the weather cooperates, do some of the best flying you can imagine.
3 great meets will be happening over the week. For anyone who might be confused about what is going on, here are more
details...
1) The Willi, as you have come to know and love it, will go on as usual from Aug 5 to 11, including...
- Classes for all level of pilot, PG and HG.
- 3 best flights count (same basic rules as last year for O&R, landing bonuses, etc.).
- No need for a GPS to compete (we take your word for it), but GPS scoring will be available.
- Cash prizes.
- Welcome party Friday evening in the LZ sponsored by Muller Windsports.
- Breakfast each morning at the LZ.
- The Big Party, Sunday evening, Aug 6.
Entry $60 - Registration Friday evening and Saturday morning. You can pre-register (you'll still need to pay and fill in the forms on-site), check who's coming and get more info at http://events.dowsett.com
2) The Race Willi, a new feature headed up by Will Gadd et al, will run concurrent with the Willi Aug 5-9. Get more info at
http://gravsports.com/Paragliding%20Pages/Race_Willi.htm All entrants in the Race Willi will also be participating in the regular Willi.
All pilots in both the regular and race Willi will have equal access to launch - there will be no closed launch for racing. As in the past, given the number of pilots, we will need to be organized on launch and there may be a few extra wrinkles, but we will make it work. If you want to add some turnpoint and racing fun to your Willi experience, register with Gadd on his web site. Cost for the Race Willi is $25 plus regular Willi entry.
3) The 30 the annual Lakeside Event (http://www.lakesideevent.com/) goes Saturday Aug 12th (rain day on the 13th). The Lakeside is a separate event and a perfect way to end your Willi week. If you haven't done it before, you need the experience of spot landing in a tube on a beach with 5000 half naked people screaming at you. Cost is $50. We will arrange the Willi flying on Friday to allow everyone a good opportunity to make the Lakeside hangar party Friday evening (if you don't know what this sentence means, just shut up, follow us to the hangar, and be ready to have fun).
If you need accommodation, contact Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch (http://www.goldenadventurepark.com/) for tent or RV sites, or the Rondo Motel (http://www.rondomotel.ca/) for a room.
If you need more information, let me know.
If you are a potential sponsor and would like to help out with donations, let me know.
If you have too much time on your hands while someone you know flies, andyou'd like to help out, let me know.
