Sun Peaks Team Meet - important info
Register here
Here's a bit of info you need to know for Sun Peaks.
We have to meet at 9AM on Saturday morning at Ian's B&B (Sun Valley B&B) to meet with the mountain folks, sign waivers and pay. We'll be taking the chairlifts up each day, no vehicles allowed, and the fee for that is $10/day.
We also have to start uploading at 10:30 each morning. It'll take some time to get us all up there so even though it seems early, I don't think we'll be sitting around too long up there. So we'll be making an early decision as to whether Sun Peaks will be suitable for the day or if we will have to venture elsewhere.
They are running this chairlift soley for us so please be appreciative of the effort they are going to for us. It is the only time that Ian knows that they are running this lift in the summer (they use the other lift that goes to the mid-mountain chalet for the bike races that are going on this weekend.
There will be a vehicle up top to shuttle any spectators/family/crew to that other lift for downloading. Hopefully we won't need any downloading with our gear.
I also recommend making your accomodations plans ahead of time - I don't think there are hotels there that you can just check in to (I could be wrong). It is all resort condos managed by companies. There is camping and RV hookups at Ian's. I am not sure what he is charging but he also warned that there is no facilities (toilets or showers) but there is a campground about 6k away.
Sun Peaks is almost an hour from Kamloops (as far as I can remember) and Sun Peaks doesn't have (to my knowledge) everything to make your stay 'sustainable' - no full grocery store, no big beer/liquor store, no major banks, no gas station. We'll hopefully be doing all of our flying right at Sun Peaks so get everything you think you will need in Kamloops and fill your gas up before you come up to the mountain. It'll be a pain and take some time planning to drive back into town just to get gas. Most of our flying will hopefully take us up to the North and back and I think there is a gas station up that way but not sure.
And bring cash for entry fees and lift fees. I doubt there is much of a bank machine around.
And I was hoping to get turnpoints up in Google Earth but work has kept me busy this week and I am running out of time. I may get them up tonight for people to review if they like and to get the coordinates of Ian's B&B. It is at the base of Sun Peaks in Hefley Creek before you make the last climb up to Sun Peaks. Donna and I will be there sometime mid-Friday-afternoon - feel free to try me on my cell at 604-763-4020 (if they work there) or on the radio at 146.415.
I am looking forward to a fun weekend. See you all soon. Mark
