Sun Peaks Team Meet - the Results
What a fun weekend. You sure missed out if you passed on it. Flying was great which really helps us have fun but it was also great to work with an optimistic and welcoming ski resort. They certainly realized the effects have using their facilities for a summer event and they were already talking about having us back anytime. Without any modifications, hassles or training we used their quad chairlift to upload all of our hang gliders right to the peak of the mountain (at 6,800'asl) and were a 5 minute level walk from the furthest launch (there are at least five launch slots we could have used and we used the one that was pretty much the furthest away). This was the first time they have fired up this lift in the summer season.
Thanks also to all the participants that came out. We should have had many, many more PGs out but we had 17 HGs in the comp and there were a few not in the comp as well. And I think we had two PGs in the meet and about 8 free-flyin-PGs as well. Launches were all great for both HG and PG - you are launching from alpine meadows so it is all grass and wildflowers. The valleys we flew down had lots of great LZs as well...many are sloping down to a river that runs down the valley but the HGs had no problems with landings so the PGs shouldn't either!
Other than a few long retrieves, it was a stress free weekend. Thanks so much to all that came out!
Final results (converted to the 300 point per task system) can be found here and the track logs of all the XC flights can be found here on the HPAC track log.
