Easter Meet at Kamloops

Winter has been long, very long here in Alberta so a few of us went to Kamloops for the Easter Meet. Doug Litzenburger, Rob Green and myself decided to make the trek from Edmonton. We got in real late to Savona Thursday night, good thing Doug phoned ahead and made reservations for the wonderful Savona hotel, no more comments need to be made there. Woke up Friday morning to some overcast and East wind. The three of us being total tourists and not knowing where any of the flying sites where went up to the Road house cafe to have breakfast at meet up with the rest of the gang. After Breakfast we went to the International Lz below Oscars, being no good at Oscar's we all headed to the Punch Bowl to do some more of that hang waiting the everyone loves so much. Since it wasn't soarable at the bowl most of us headed to a spot outside Kamloops called the Pimple. Most of the local pilots were there in the LZ when we arrived after having extended sled runs. We hiked our way up to launch. Jeff Rempel, Doug Litzenburger and Ric Hunt set up right away with Rob and myself sand bagging. It didn't take long for Rob and I to start stuffing battens after watching Jeff, Doug and Ric climb above launch. It was 4:45 when I launched and managed to take a smooth thermal to 2000ft over launch. After being starved for airtime all winter I was grinning from ear to ear. I managed to get and hour and a half of airtime having an incredible first flight of the year. In the Lz it was business as usual with a few beers and stories. It was so great to see everyone again. Overall we had 16 pilots that showed up for the meet. Saturday was just about a repeat of Friday with running around and deciding where to fly, we ended up at the Pimple again where everyone had extended sled runs. The flying wasn't good however the weather was incredible being 24 degrees. Sunday was a total wash with overcast skies and and more East wind. We all went up to Oscars and hung out. We finished the day off with a fantastic meal at Ralph's.
