5.2) Event Scoring
Submitted by GoAdmin on Thu, 02/28/2008 - 11:16.
Add up each days' point values for all entrants. Only one day is required for a 'valid' meet but you can't have separate events on separate days on the same weekend.
The minimum distance to make a day valid is 20x the height from launch to official LZ for PGs and 30x the height for HGs. Three pilots need to achieve the minimum distance to make it valid.
Towing events need to set a reasonable release height for the equipment being used and pilots need to release close to that height (not much over).
A minimum of 3 pilots are needed to make an event/task valid.
Event winners will win a share of entry fees collected.

- With the Cat's Craddle task, isn't the usual method to give each point a score, with distant points scoring higher, then you accumulate points rather than distance? I like the distance calculation as it is simple, but feel we may need to put in limits for the number of times you can use points overall or consecutively. At Golden for example, someone who ventures for a point at Pagliaro should be rewarded more than someone who goes back and forth between launch and mt 7.
- Maybe the limit rule for meet winner (or day points - see next comment) points is max number of pilots, up to 10. 5 pilots = 5 points to winner, 4 to second, etc. 1 to all entrants. I'm worried about the 48 hr call for a meet at a lonely spot that is attended by me and 2 friends getting as many points as a scheduled meet that atracts 40.
- What about scoring each meet day separately from a series point of view, with bonuses for extra (see below). It is not unusual to get fewer days than a full weekend. If all meets are scored the same from a series point of view, then it is how many days you fly well that should count rather than meets. So, for example, you go to a meet in Fraser Valley and it rains all weekend except for one day, the pilots on that day have a chance at the 10 points, available to the winner and on down. If they fly all 3 days, it is 10 points per day. More flying = more points. Want more days in spite of the weather, go to more meets.
- To get things a little more interesting, what about a scoring model like Nascar for the series. Winners get points per day as above, but bonus out some other notable efforts. For example: 3 points for fastest lap on the day (can SeeYou tell you that), 3 points for first/last lap completed, 3 points for most laps by a rookie, 5 points for meet winner (most accumulated points for a comp, no matter how many days) and on down to 5th getting 1.
By the way, I like the lap idea best as it forces a little more skill in the flight as far as I'm concerned.
