5) Sanctioning
48 hours public notification is all that is needed to announce an event...we want you to take advantage of a good forecast on the horizon.
Just create an event on GoFlyXC.com and post a message on the HPAC YahooGroup and do the event. When creating the event on GoFlyXCXC.com, be sure to flag the "Event Type" as "XCXC Series" so it automatically gets added to the dedicated calender.
If you need the HPAC scoring computer you need to plan ahead and book it (first-come, first-served).
What's that....? You don't like such a short notification of the event and want to improve your ranking? Too bad...if you can't make that event (timing or geographically), host your own! It doesn't take much and these events are all just one, two or three day events (and both are weighted evenly) so all it takes is a good weekend of flying and you getting your flying friends motivated to join you.

If you want to call these
If you want to call these Class C meets you will need to either comply with the existing 14 day notice requirement or change the requirement for all Class C events to 48 hours. You can't have different rules for the same Class. Reality is that if you want maximum participation you will need to give as much notice as possible so if you change the notice requirement to 48 hours it leaves it open to the short notice meets but the more serious Class C organizers can still give more notice to get more pilots.
We wondered about that rule,
We wondered about that rule, Doug. I think Mark's right in wanting to reduce the time for announcement - if the weather is good, let's just do it. What I don't want to see is people manipulating the system to davantage a few who are in over those who just don't know the comp is going on.
Shortening the announcement time doesn't preclude anyone wo wants to run a more "traditional" meet from announcing earlier. My personal preference is that there would be a number of series comps announced well in advance, and that the ad hoc, 48hr notice meets are relatively scarce.
I will propose the change to
I will propose the change to Class C announcements to 48 hours.
We want to encourage participation.
And for all Class C meets, field validity gets taken into account...so if noone (or not many) show up, the Class C NTSS validity goes down the tank.
If lots do show up to the XCXC event, it'll be good for the XCXC rankings but still only moderately good for the NTSS rankings. In the end, I really doubt XCXC will have much of an effect on NTSS rankings.
If it does, that is a good problem I look at resolving.
