Choosing a GPS

Here is an old table I created circa 2004 when the Garmin 76 Series just came out. It's still rather relevant today as there are still the eTrex vs Garmin 76 Series available....just in different configurations.

I still have great opposition for using the eTrex Series of GPSs for flying (other than a backup GPS that you don't have to operate in flight) due to their small screens and tiny, side-mounted buttons.....I have no idea how you could possibly operate them in flight.

Now there are also a Series 60 of GPSs from Garmin. They operate similarly to the 76 Series and are a little less expensive. I haven't used one in flight but my only criticism of them is that they have that antenna that gets in the way of using instrument pods.
