Tuesday Morn
Sorry for no blog posts! Time sure flies when you're flying.
The meet is going great....I think there is almost 63 pilots and the resort here is packed. The flying has been 'good' but not as good as last year unfortunately. The conditions have been light....light lift and more wind than last year. It still makes for challenging conditions.
Results are here
Sunday, Day 1 was a 110km triangle. Only 12 flex-wings make it back to goal and just one Canadian (Brett). Scott was 12km short, Fiona was about 25km short after leaving the tow-paddock last and landing at 6PM (less than an hour before the sun goes down). The rest of us made it about half way.
Yesterday, Day 2 was a 132km square. They said the lift would be stronger, take us higher and the winds were to be lighter than day 1....actually, the lift was weaker (not by much), base was the same and the winds were stronger. Noone made goal and most went down at the second turnpoint (which was at the most downwind part of the task. That still took most 3-5hrs to get there and once you turn back in to the headwind knowing you are only half way, it kinda demoralizes you.
The forecast for the rest of the week looks the same....it'll be a lot of slow-going and being cautious...and a lot of scratching. There's a lot of sore shoulders already and there's another 5 days to go!
I've been trying broadcasting my position live on Leo Live. It has been working but only for the first half hour of my flights so I'm still at the start on both. I'm not sure why....I think the phone I'm using crashes. I'll try again today and see if I can keep the phone close by and relaunch it.
I also flew with my wing-tip camera and got some nice pics of the area.
