Canadian HG Nats - Day 5 (Task 2)

The task was out and return again but instead of designating the landing field as final goal they made it more challenging by designating the launch as goal, and increasing the total distance to 123k.

Challenging indeed! I launched at 3:30 and crossed the 5 k start radius at 4pm, the last start interval. The thermals were small and difficult to work. It was after 8;30 when I arrived back at goal but about 1000 feet below it. Not good enough as the gps track has to be within 400 meters to achieve turn points and goal. I searched for some useable lift to get up to launch altitude but after scratching around and slowly sinking out I went to the landing zone. Total flight duration 5hr 20 min. I think 1 pilot in my class achieved goal so that should place me 2nd for the day.

My back actually feels a little better after the flight but my neck is very sore. Even with my head support line connected to my helmet my neck muscels are just not up to flying prone for 5 hours. Maybe I'll have to try a supine harness.

The weather looks good for tomorrow and the final day Saturday. Hopefully the are right.
