Canadian 2008 NTSS points update
I had to revise the HG points....the Miles in May meet had to be removed from the rankings. It's omission flipped a couple of rankings but it didn't change who is in the top 4, 5 or 6 so it won't affect the 2009 World team selection regardless of team size.
The meet had to be removed as the total points accumulated over the three tasks didn't surpass 1000 points (using the GAP scoring system). Ross tried valiantly to make this a racing meet (changed from it's open distance format in the past) but was faced with bad weather. The HPAC Comp rule book that if a Class B meet doesn't reach this 1000 point milestone, it is disqualified from the NTSS.
I personally think it is a shame that in this case, when Ross put extra effort into trying to make it a racing meet, all the competitors are almost 'penalized'. The idea behind this rule is not to weight the meet too highly when things like weather devalues the points accumulated but to throw it out is a little too much (IMHO). I'm sure few of the pilots that went to the MiM were searching for points and as I mentioned, it didn't affect the team selection...but it easily could have.
Validity of a GAP scored event can be altered by changing the meet parameters entered into the scoring system...I don't know the answer to this....but were the parameters used appropriate for this meet? If they weren't, this could have ruined the validity. I bring this issue up not to discredit the organizers or scorer but to point out that this 1000 point validity thing can be manipulated (not post-event tho).
I'll discuss this with the Comp Committee as what we can do in the future for this. Feel free to add your opinion here.

PS - I think it is funny that Bernie competed in 2006 and didn't make the 2007 World Team until Jeff couldn't make the event...and then he doesn't compete at all in 2008 at all and qualifies for the 2009 Worlds (if they allow a six man team).
PPS - the only thing that I can see changing before the end of the year is Brett's ranking. He mentioned he's heading down to Brazil for a few comps in October....expect him to give Scott a run for the top ranked spot! Best of luck Brett.
