Good Saturday

Friday I had a lesson with Kevin... After a few flights, he had a couple of hard landings that left him with sore / sprained ankles. We cut the lesson short. His enthusiasm hopefully will aid the healing.

Good Saturday - As I drove out to the Point there was a large cell to the west and a full rainbow @ 8am. Light rain fell at the Point for a while, but we all set up when it blew over quickly. There were 6 or so HG pilots out enjoying the air.

The unsettled atmosphere kept threatening and the wind direction switched a time or two. I took advantage of a wind switch to the west to hop over the power lines and slide up on "blue-balls" to soar it for 30 minutes. I believe I saw an Osprey on a migration pattern? Maybe only the second osprey I've seen while flying in Utah.

Tried to shoot a couple of landing approaches on the foothill south of Blue-Balls, but glider had too much performance. Maybe with a different glider.

Enjoyed lunch with the boys, then an afternoon run out to Utah lake. Grasshoppers abounded. As I watched them jump out of the way, I thought that it might be interesting to be a grasshopper. They spring high in the air, twist and flip around, and crash land amazingly hard. They appear unscathed. Some fly with no skill and some actually seem to get the flying down to a degree.
