Arizona Weather

With the anticipation of the upcoming competition I thought I should check out the weather.

Late in last year's flying season, I came across XC Skies a soaring forecasting tool for us free-fliers. It may rival Dr Jack that we've all come to love and depend on.

XC Skies advantage is that it is VERY easy to use and has pretty maps! I always found Dr Jack too plain jane and hard to navigate and read.

Early Arizona Flying

Here's a great story of some early day Arizona flying:

The poster, Jude Daggett, is now working for Tracking The World...some neat products.

Santa Cruz Flats registration

Registration opens for the Santa Cruz Flats Race on Sunday, February 10th at 9 AM Pacific Standard Time (Noon, EST, and 4 AM, Monday, February 11th, AEST, daylight time). The limit is fifty pilots this year and we expect that it will fill up very quickly, so don't miss out.

Registration is at http://goflyxc.com/2008/santacruz.

We also have a limited number of rooms set aside at a special rate at the Francisco Grande Resort. They can be contacted directly at (520) 836-6444. Just mention the Santa Cruz Flats Race and they will give you the discounted rate.

Trying to get to Arizona

I'm trying to get my act together to see if I (and the whole family) can get to the Santa Cruz Flytec Championships this year. Registration will be opening up soon and I'm having difficulty NOT going. I just had such a good time last year due to the warm weather (but not too crazy hot), relaxed atmosphere (small meet at an awesome golf resort) and most importantly the flying was amazing. We flew 7 of 7 comp days in light winds where were able to call triangles 6 out of the 7 days.

Re-live the meet on Leonardo CE

This LeoCE (Comp Edition) is the best. The big news is that the creator reprogrammed things to accept data from SeeYou which Davis Straub is working hard to add Competition scoring to.

Arizona meet

Well, I'm now committed to going to the Arizona meet. I'm excited! Another aero-tow meet this year. And it'll be interesting to be the first group to compete in an area.

The closer for committing to go was that Donna and Brody (wife and son) are coming down. A good friend of Donna's lives in Scotsdale (40mi away) and just had a baby so all the reasons to go were aligned.

AZ Comp

Dustin

Thanks for hosting the comp here in Arizona. I believe you picked an excellent location to have the event. Excellent XC potential with typically solid weather conditions. I hope to get in tomorrow.
