My take on the Moyes Malibu

My take on the Moyes Malibu

Gerolf told me that he wanted to create a great dune soaring glider, one that could stay up in lighter conditions that was the case with the Airborne Fun. This would extend the conditions that allowed for pilots to have a good soar at the beach. Also he wanted higher performance at the top end with better penetration in higher winds.

Of course, he needed the glider to also to have great handling so that you could have a safe time in strong conditions at the beach, as well as be safe if your a new pilot just learning to fly.

Bill Moyes Arrives

Bill Moyes Arrives - Well today after going to auction and picking up the GTI I made the lovely drive into LAX to pickup Bill Moyes and Tommy Crump. I brought them back to Kraigs office in San Dimas where we found them a motel 50 metres across the road. We then went for a dinner and herd lots of stories about their recenet adventures in Fiji.

I found this out from Brett when I told him about my troubles getting head down in my harness when it is full of gear (pack up materials).

I finally got the opportunity to fly with my new Moyes Matrix Race harness. I'd adjusted it during long sessions of hanging in it trying to get the shoulder straps just right, so that, my shoulders didn't hurt from too much pressure. I loosened the straps so that they didn't touch my shoulders and that was about right, but the straps were now too long and there was less support for my chest. I was continuing to work on the right setting.

I had replaced the "normal DHV length" mains with ones that were ten inches longer. This allowed me to place my head pulley up at the bottom of the under surface (with a really short hang strap thanks to Steve Pearson at Wills Wing) where hopefully the air speed would be slower and the drag due to the pulley less.  Well, a bit of a fantasy there.

After a busy start to the new season we are now back to regular production. With more streamlined production and quality control, for the first time, we are able to offer "off-peak" glider delivery. We can have a stock colour combination glider, test flown and in the box in 4 weeks! Custom colours in 6 weeks!

Flying the Wild WEST Wind - on the new Moyes LiteSpirit

Flying the Wild WEST Wind in Sydney - West Winds in Sydney are usually spent surfing the offshore waves. Last week, a few of us were looking for something different and headed to Frenchman's Bay of Sydney.

Gerolf, Steve Elliot, and Noma, brought the new Moyes LiteSpirit proto for us to play with.

There was a small water-spout (!) straight out front as we arrived at the sand dune.

30 minutes later, Steve Elliot was first off...
