Another Weekend at the Questicle

Funny the things we find to entertain us when the weather isn't just right. Saturday we flew, but the wind was blowing quite a bit, so it wasn't the most enjoyable tow or landing of my life. I suppose it's good for me to fly in conditions I'm not completely comfortable with- but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it.

Choosing the site for the 2011 Worlds

I've asked Dennis Pagen, the chairman of the hang gliding committee at CIVL, to structure the process of reviewing the four proposals for the 2011 hang gliding World Championships. Here is my proposal (slightly edited from the one I sent to him and others earlier):

There is not a "new" T2C sail "coming out." The T2C, along with the entire WW line, receives minute, nominal, and perhaps negligible sail tweaks frequently. When there's a significant sail change it's announced. What's happened lately isn't a significant change.

Forbes, no fence and an additional hangar?

OzReport Logo.png

Steve McCarthy keeps sending out emails announcing that he'll be towing at Forbes (this last weekend and two weekends from now). There continues to be a lot of interest from pilots wanting to tow up and fly big cross country flights from Forbes.

Bill Moyes started leaving a Dragonfly or two out there two years ago and last year pilots finally figured this out and made arrangements for getting towed up. Now there is more demand than ever, while there was little demand for towing from Rylstone where Bill normally keeps his tugs.

This is going to be a great time. Belinda will have to drive the truck and the trailer each day (and pick me up as I will only land next to the highway if not at goal), but it will only be 100 miles at most. I assume that we can have a local task if the winds aren't right on any given day, then go north that afternoon to the next spot.
