HG Nats - finally...a task
Submitted by Mark Dowsett on Fri, 06/08/2007 - 22:31.We finally had a task for the Nats today. The task was incorporated into the Lumby Air Races and the idea behind the LAR is to keep everyone in eye shot of the town so the spectators can get a great view.
It turned out that it was probably the best idea anyways as the competitors could see cells dumping rain in pretty much all directions from Lumby but it still stayed reasonably sunny in the Lumby valley allowing at least Brett to do the course.

Cdn National Spot Landing Championships
Submitted by GoAdmin on Thu, 06/07/2007 - 21:30.The weather sure hasn't been cooperating here in Lumby. It's been grey and raining all week so we haven't had a single task in since we started this past Sunday.
Today we were lucky to have no rain so we did another spot landing contest today and the Lumby Air Races put up a whopping $300 on this task...$150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third. We also rounded up fifteen pilots to throw in another $10 on a side-bet - winner takes all...so there was $300 on the first place prize.
Brett went fairly early and set the pace doing a huge ground-effect glide in to the field. The local CH BC (Global) was out today with a film crew and Brett put on a great show disappearing BELOW the bull-rushes on the far end of the field and then popped UP and into the field and landed 19'1" away from the spot which was closer than any spot -landing from Monday. The spot was at least 200' from the bull-rushes.
Canadian Nats day 2 & 3
Submitted by GoAdmin on Tue, 06/05/2007 - 13:00.Surprise, surprise....there's been a drought here in Lumby for all of May - no rain in ages....so we thought we'd help out the local farmers by hosting a hang gliding competition.
Days 2 & 3 (Mon & Tues) were weathered out. We went up Coopers yesterday even tho the skies didn't look favourable. We ended up calling off the day and had a quick spot landing contest and the Lumby Air Races put up $200 of prize money ($100 for first, $60 for second, $40 for third). Only six pilots didn't drop their base tube (or more...) and I ended up winning (33' from the target, Leif was second at 60' and Greg Lloyd was 3rd with 80'.
Canadian Nats, Day 1
Submitted by GoAdmin on Sun, 06/03/2007 - 22:12.The forecast looked awesome for today but one of the cells blew up and shaded launch for too much of the afternoon. We had a nice task setup - 101km but no-one made it out of the bombout so the day was invalid. Brett gave it a valiant effort and almost made it out of bombout.

2007 Canadian Paragliding Nationals announced
Submitted by Will Gadd on Sun, 02/25/2007 - 01:03.July 29th through August 4th, Golden, BC. FAI Cat. 2 (Valid for US NTSS points per the USHPA rulebook)
General: After a long absence the Canadian Nationals are returning to Golden! Golden has some of the best flying in North America--a long west-facing range with a broad, landing-friendly valley at the base. Golden has become one of the most user-friendly flying areas around, with a huge LZ, campground and meet HQ all at the Golden Eco Adventure Ranch.
Last year we ran the Race Willi, which was a low-stress and big fun style of meet. Despite some poorer than usual conditions we still had a fully valid meet with some tasks running late into the evening. We hope to have a similar style comp this year, with the focus on good flying with friends. You can often fly 10 hours a day in Golden, and it's common to run more than 100K down the range. Conditions in late July are generally good, we're all looking forward to having a strong field racing along the range as in years past. Yeah!
