schedule

Thursday June 30th:
Evening - I'll get up there as early as I can and would like to do registration that evening to as many as possible. Drop by the Pemberton Lodge - I'll either be in the lobby or in my room.

Friday July 1st:
Meeting at 9AM at the Pony Espresso. Finish Registration and have our initial pilot meeting. Plan on getting up the mountain early. Rides are not provided with the entry fee but I have never seen anyone get stuck at the bottom!

July 1-4 - competition rounds each day after daily pilot meeting at the Pony Espresso. It's the common place for pilots to meet and a great breakfast spot.

daily scores

Sorry for no postings during the weekend but there wasn't a lot to report....we ended up not getting a single task in due to a mix of bad weather...some high winds, lots of cloud, some rain. Yuk.

We still had a good time though. There was some soaring on Saturday evening off of the "east launch". It's a tricky new launch but those that got off got to ride some convergence and had some troubles getting down at times. They all landed at the airport while the fund raising party was ramping up.

We also scoped out the Miller Creek launch on the west side of the valley (NW of MacKenzie). It's about 1000' higher than MacKenzie and faces more into the Whistler Express winds (but is out of range of it) - good for early day flights.

results

Unfortunately we had terrible weather for the event...not so bad that we didn't have a good time, just no taskable weather (and very little flyable weather). There has been this huge low pressure (or pressures) off of the coast here for most of June and has brought the west coast with abnormily poor soaring conditions...our February here has been 10x better than our June!

Oh well, what can you do...

waypoints

If you want to see all the waypoints ahead of time, here are the coordinates. The file will work with CompeGPS if you have it but I am not sure which other applications it will be able to be read in. If you need another format, just let me know what application it is and preferably which format it accepts and I will try to convert it for you.

You will need to get a new copy of the waypoints uploaded to your GPS at the competition so don't rely that this file is the official list. If I change any coordinates between now and then, you will miss getting those.

accomodations

Here is a great B&B that is real close to the LZs:

Glider Classifications

Paraglider Classifications

This is in an attempt to create a class for lesser experienced pilots so they can enjoy coming to the meet, learn to go XC, learn to race and compete in a class with similar gliders.

If you have any comments (positive or negative) about this, I would love to hear them - please post on the forum and let's talk it out!

Paragliding Class definition:

"Standard Class" paragliders have the following ratings:
* DHV 1 ONLY
* DHV 1-2 ONLY
* AFNOR Standard ONLY
* DHV 1 & AFNOR Standard
* DHV 1-2 & AFNOR Standard

"Open Class" include all other production gliders.
