2006 Hedley Open
Hedley after 3 days
Submitted by GoAdmin on Mon, 05/08/2006 - 11:56.The scores from Friday are now up. You can see the scores here. Sorry for the late posting. We had a few scoring program issues and didn't resolve them until this morning. There was no flying on either day over the weekend so we weren't in a rush to fix them all up.
Congrats to Jim Orava as he was the only one to make goal (and he didn't have any GPS problems which is a bigger accomplishment for him!).
They had a great time in Hedley over the weekend despite the bad competing weather. They did have some flights yesterday but it wasn't suitable for competing. The winds were a bit strong and rather cloudy (they had a bit of hail).
Hedley After two days
Submitted by GoAdmin on Fri, 05/05/2006 - 03:19.Scores and animated track logs from day 1 and 2 are up here.
I guess it was less than ideal conditions today.
It sounds like there were lots of problems yesterday with GPSs and figuring out start times. I heard something about Yassen not having the task or coordinates or something but he still flew with is GPS recording so here is what I could decipher from his track log:
- Yassen started at 10:40, got the start, the TP1, the CHURCH TP, then landed at 11:10, went back to launch, launched at 1:51 and then headed right for Keremeos! For one, you aren't allowed to relaunch...and besides you have to do all the turnpoints in one flight, not get a few and launch again to get the rest. Then he comes back after getting the Kerameos TP, then toplands on launch at 3:45, relaunches again 20 minutes later and lands at the baseball field (not goal)....WOW, what a flight!
Hedley - Day 1
Submitted by GoAdmin on Thu, 05/04/2006 - 03:15.The Hedley Open started today. They have 14 competitors. I am helping out remotely with the scores - I trained Tonya on CompeGPS to download the tracks and email me them all so I can handle scoring. I am unclear on a few things about the task and there is no cell coverage and limited internet access so scoring will have to wait til tomorrow to be done.
Today's task was about 44km taking them to Keremeos and back to Hedley. Amir and Kyndel made goal and Jim Orava almost made it. They were topping up at over 3000m and by the looks of the tracklogs, the drift wasn't that pronounced so the wind couldn't have been too bad. The fact that they went both to and back from Keremeos is a good sign of manageable winds.
GAP parameters
I set the GAP parameters to:
- Nominal Distance of 45km - I felt that the average distance of the flights will be around 30km due to the higher winds and I feel the tasks will be more successful going downwind and with the recent Oz Report charts, it shows Nominal Distance should be around 50% higher than Average distance flown.
- Nominal time 1h30
- percent in goal 20%
- minimum distance 6km
